The Creator's Journey · Chapter XI, Building What Lasts

I was COO of Kaneva, a three-dimensional online world, and involved with Vivox, which gave people inside games and virtual worlds their voices. Late one evening, in a dim office, I watched a test session.

For the first few minutes it was all text, clipped and awkward. Then voice came on. Someone laughed. Someone asked where everybody was from. Within ten minutes they were coordinating, joking and helping a newcomer. The screen had not changed. What changed was that they could hear each other.

Nobody in that session knew the name Vivox. They never would. Years later, Unity acquired it.
