Nobody Lands Alone: A Night Recovery at Sea.
A moonless night, no horizon and a pitching deck. Dozens of people working as one system.
The Creator's Journey · Chapter II, The Creator's Mind
No horizon. The sea and the sky the same black. A cluster of lights far too small to land on, sailing away from us into the wind. The Landing Signal Officer talks us down. We call the ball. The hook catches a wire, and we stop in about two seconds.
What I remember now is not the danger. It is the people: the LSO, the air boss, the arresting gear crew, the maintainers, the navigator holding the ship into the wind. Most of them were barely out of their teens.
Nobody lands alone.
